The most powerful resource available to a families is the support and knowledge of other parents. In consideration of this fact, Autism Answers of Louisiana offers parents and families the opportunity to meet and share their experiences, obtain information, and network with other parents regarding a variety of issues and concerns through support groups and parent mentoring.
Autism Answers of Louisiana offers parent to parent mentors allowing parents to have an opportunity for direct contact with a parent/ professional who can offer the best advice and resources available for the family considering their current situation and obstacles. These one to one sessions offer child specific support from a parent who has faced similar obstacles. The mentor program provides face-to-face support for families in a warm and caring environment. Mentors are both parents and professionals with strong knowledge of the autism spectrum in addition to a passion and commitment for empowering other parents who are facing the daily challenges of raising a child with autism. Parent mentors are also available for phone support and contact via email. Autism Answers holds a yearly event for families participating in the mentor program.
At Autism Answers we offer multiple support groups including groups specifically for Dads, Grandparents groups, Sibling groups, and support groups for families of individuals in residential placements.
Our support groups are held weekly and include meetings during the day and in evenings to accommodate the needs of all families. New families and caregivers are always welcome. Those who wish to share or simply listen are invited to attend. Once per month Autism Answers offers a network lunch and play date for families to meet with one another and allow the children and their siblings to socialize while the parents are networking. Our support groups are held in a comfortable and inviting environment that has a children’s area attached so parents can network while allowing their children to play in a friendly environment.
